Building on our success as As Kneaded Bakery at Bay Area farmers markets and through our storefront, As Kneaded Café expands on our mission to build community through excellent food and friendly, welcoming customer service.
Driven by passion
As Kneaded Bakery has been casually exploring the possibility of opening a second business for years. An amazing opportunity presented itself in January 2025, when I reached out to the City of San Leandro to ask about Bookmark Café, a quaint café located inside the Main Library that had either closed or slowed down business. I immediately began to imagine ourselves inhabiting the space. I loved the idea of serving library patrons and embedding my business in one of our city’s greatest community assets.
Opening a café at the San Leandro Main Library is an extension of our mission to be a community hub for excellent food, emphasizing healthy, naturally leavened breads, high-quality baked goods, and friendly, welcoming customer service.
A café and the Library act in symbiosis — one nourishes the body while the other nourishes and engages the mind. The Café expands upon this existing mission by offering sit-down meal service to library-goers and encouraging new visitors to try our bakery just up the road.
